Robot Rumble

Development

Robot Rumble was developed in 5 months by 7 developers at Team Sprockets.
The game was designed by Lars A. Doucet, who was inspired by Battle Bots and Robot Wars.

Robot Rumble itself was loosely based on a much earlier board game he had designed entitled Ninja Havoc Machines., designed to emulate the feel of the aforementioned "Robotic Sports," competitions, both in the designing of one's robot and the tactics of the actual battle.

Philip Degarmo was the lead programmer, and suggested that Microsoft's new XNA Game Studio technology be used for the project. On past projects, Degarmo was sick of spending most of the time writing all the tedious, repetitive code necessary to set up a basic boilerplate for each new project. XNA promised to speed up development for the XBOX 360 by a significant margin without sacrificing on game quality. The Robot Rumble demo was completed in record time and runs smoothly on the XBOX 360, even with all the effects going full blast.

Team Sprockets credits its success to the strength and dedication of its team. Many thanks go out to all those who put in the countless hours that made this game possible!
